The monitor was used by Whitney throughout most of her major performances in the 1990s as it was her trusted ear piece. the monitor has her nickname "Nippy" on a sticker on the piece. This is a truly wonderful piece forever linked to a beloved artist and one of the world?s most successful music acts of all time.
Whitney Houston was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey, and almost seemed destined from birth to become a singer. Her mother Cissy Houston, cousin Dionne Warwick and godmother Aretha Franklin were all legendary figures in American gospel, soul and pop music, and were great inspirations for Whitney's music. She began singing as a young child in the choir at her church, The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, and by the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 hit, "I'm Every Woman". She went on to provide backing vocals for Lou Rawls and Jermaine Jackson before becoming one of the world's most inspirational and versatile voices. Her career was honored with 2 Emmy awards, 6 People's Choice awards, 6 Grammy awards and 22 American Music Awards, just to name a few, and in 2009 Guinness World Records cited her as the most awarded female act of all time. Houston is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with 200 million records sold worldwide. Her music will live on for generations, and she will forever be a music industry icon, and the Queen of Pop. Whitney Houston tragically passed away in 2012, and her death was followed by the then tragic passing of her only child in 2015.
