  • Condition: This beautiful KESTNER doll is in very nice condition for her age and large size. The clothes are included in the price but the doll stand is not included. Please review the photos. I will attempt to list all minor defects that have been noted on close inspection. There are some chips on her fingers and left upper arm as shown in the photos. The right eye lid of her beautiful brown sleep eyes has a chip (this chip is on the surface of the glass eye and can be seen when the eyes are closed). This beautiful doll has a sticker on her torso Quaker Doll Hospital, Phila., PA where I believe she was last restrung. She had this sticker when my mother purchased this doll. She appears to be strung with some type of metal spring as she creaks a bit when she bends (she is old). She holds poses very well despite her large size. The clothing is vintage and has some age related discoloring & some small holes.

    Description

Gorgeous KESTNER ~23"Tall German Bisque Head Doll - (167 12 1/2) - Private Collection - Smoke free home
This beautiful ~23" tall KESTNER bisque socket head doll was made in GERMANY and is marked on the back of her head: "H 1/2 made in Germany 167 12 1/2".  She has beautiful
    Brown glass eyes
that close (sleep eyes).  She has an adorable smile that displays her beautiful rounded teeth.  Her wig  appears to be made from human hair.  Her chin has an adorable dimple.  She is in very good condition for her age.
Research indicates that Kestner was manufacturing bisque head dolls from the late 1800's into the early 1900's.
This doll's "stringing" appears to be in good condition (no head wobble & appendages bend freely).  Her "stringing" appears to be made of springs as there is some creaking when she moves (she is old).  There is a stamp on  the back of her torso that says "Quaker Doll Hospital, 155 No. 6th Street, Philadelphia, PA) which is where I believe she was last restrung.
Please note that there are some chips on her body which include the right eye lid of her glass eye (visible only when eyes are closed), fingers and left upper arm.  The details on her face are exquisitely hand painted.
The doll is being sold with the clothing that is shown which includes:  lace dress with black velvet belt, full slip, long bloomers, full cotton dress under the lace dress, lace dress, socks, lace-up black shoes & hat.  The dress has a back button closure.  The stand is not included in the price.
This doll was part of my mother's private antique doll collection and has resided in our smoke free home for at least 60 years.  The stamp on her torso from the Doll Hospital was in place when purchased by my mother.  We believe she was restrung at the Doll Hospital but we have no documentation regarding her hospital stay.
